Stunning Experience

Saw this over at SPUG

Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. This was submitted by a guy who purchased his lovely wife a “pocket Taser” for their anniversary.

Last weekend I saw something at Larry’s Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 22nd anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Toni. What I came across was a 100,000 volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were suppose to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety…. WAY TOO COOL!

Went to the Section Live Firing Course for my Combat shoot with Weiting yesterday. Was suppose to go with Support Coy on monday but because we were the ‘chosen ones’ to be attached out for ops, we tagged along with Charlie Coy for the shoot. As we were to move out with the main body at 0730, we chose to wake up slightly later than the rest of the platoon and went for breakfast on our own (its been a while since we had chicken pie and springroll for breakfast =P). Boarded the bus and headed towards NTU, didn’t sleep a wink on the bus… Must be the coffee for breakfast, funny how they don’t serve coffee/tea when you need to drive later on and when they serve only coffee/tea when you get to sleep after breakfast… Entered NTU through the Jln Bahar entrance, which is the entrance nearest to the Residential Halls. The blocks kinda looks like Army Barracks, plus its near the SAF Live Firing Area with soldiers firing live rounds and detonating demo charges… Don’t think anyone who has served NS would like to stay there. Went into the live firing course through an opening outside the NIE library with the public looking on, must be quite a sight. =P

Basically for the entire shoot, its waiting, waiting and more waiting. You get there, you wait. You finish shooting, you wait. You finish your meals, you wait. Quite a boring day, I should say, except when you are shooting live rounds, then it gets exciting. Scored perfect scores during my combat sighting and for my day shoot. But somehow during the night shoot, I crashed badly, shooting single digit score… At least on the bright side, I don’t need to reshoot the whole thing again…

Found out that the whole platoon was given off on friday by my PC… So while the rest of the platoon were booking out, we were waiting for the night shoot to commence… I’ve got a feeling that I’m getting ripped-off by my PC… Booked out only this morning after cleaning our rifles, grrr…

On our way back, Weiting accompanied me to ICA to extend my passport, now valid till 2014, woowee!

Went back to SP today to collect the referee’s report from Dr Tan… So much has changed there! The walk to Dr Tan’s office was still quite the same, except for the barriers installed the entrance which I’ve saw since I was last time there and it is still not operational. It was during the walk into the deeper parts of the campus that some of the things I’ve known had changed much. First was the area where Workshop 4 (I think) used to be. When I graduated from SP, the area there was still under construction. Now the building standing there looks very slick and pleasing, as compared to the old workshop. Further in on my way to the SALC, saw a fenced-up area they constructed next to T8… Kinda reminds me of a training shed… (Well… When you’re in the army, you perceive the world differently) SALC still looks the same, except that the computers are positioned differently. Also, they’ve stop using cashcards for transactions. Instead, they’re now using ezlink cards to top-up and online account. Should have used that method long time ago, I say… A guy in SALC was kind enough to help me print the scholarship application form and personal statement, without any charge, saying that the first 20 prints are free, bless him. Went to photocopy documents at FC3 and suddenly realised that I forgot to bring my passport photo along… Damn… Luckily (or should I say unluckily…) FC5’s photolab provides instant passport photo, but $8 for 4 copys? WTF?! Went to NUS next to submit my scholarship application and found out that there’s a photo booth providing the same service for $5… Bummer…

Headed to TTSH after submitting the application for my medical appointment. I wonder what is the appointment for when I still have to wait for an hour to see the doctor… Sheesh… The doctor asked a couple of question regarding my ankle and also examined it. She said something about degenerated joint and also that the ligament may also be damaged. Gave a couple of painkillers, referred me to physio and made another appointment in April. Told me that if it doesn’t get any better, I might need to get a MRI scan.

Went down to Singapore Post Centre next to collect my package. Been waiting a long time for this package, the cds I’ve ordered from Amazon. Its cheaper to order from there as compared to HMV… Filter’s Shortbus was selling for $27 at HMV and Propellerheads’ Decksandrumsandrockandroll $47. Total, $74 instead of ~$55 from Amazon… Sometimes I really wonder if HMV is fleecing me…

Booty!

Couple’s Menu

What so special about valentine’s day that warrent the complete change of menu? Went to Fish & Co this evening and they only allow us to order from the ’special’ couple’s menu where we can only order set meals instead of a la carte… WTF?! So we went to Pizzahut instead and ate about $14 each as compared to a set meal of $25.90 at Fish & Co… Quite a big difference…
We headed to Acid Bar next for their Anti-Valentine’s Day promotion… Still had no idea what is it about… Think they had some promo with champagne and Bailey’s but we ended up ordering vodka with coke and vodka with 7-up for their happy hour. There was a guy playing acoustic there and I tried requesting Three Dogs Night/Filter’s “One” but he said he didn’t know the song…
I think it was more like it’s not the approriate time and place to play the song… Left the place feeling quite high and one of my buddy, Gary, was quite wasted. Hilarity ensues

Haiz… Its that time of the year… A special day with that special someone… As for me… I’m stuck in camp, doing area cleaning while those with dates get day off… As if fate is conspiring against us, S3 is conducting a standby tomorrow… So we, the unattached, have to do a thorough area cleaning with reduced manpower…
And to complicate the problem, the painters are painting our bunks, so they had to move the bed, and when they removed one of the bed, surprise surprise! Its in a total mess… So now, they’ve ‘cordoned’ off the area with white tape and the owners of the mess have to cut short their valentine’s day off to come back to pack up… Its about time they sort out their area…

Essay Writing

Whew… Finally finish writing the personal statement for the NUS scholarship application… After almost two years of not writing any form of essay, it was quite difficult for me to complete it. Thinking of what to write was easy, but how to write the introduction was tough… Had to think for quite a long time before I thought of what to write… Now that it’s finished, I just need to get it proofread and also wait for my referee’s report before I can submit it.
